Léandre‘s experience

University of Rijeka

There are two types of courses:

  • Courses that require in-person attendance
  • Courses that can be completed with a seminar report worked on from home.

For the in-person courses and course materials, some are taught in Croatian (for example, Mechatronic Systems and Optoelectronics).

However, the projects and reports done remotely are very interesting and allow you to explore new subjects.

Obtaining all the necessary administrative documents in Croatia takes several months, so start the process as soon as you arrive.

All documents must be processed at the Rijeka Police Department, and the queue is very long every day.

Be sure to reserve your place in advance on the website provided by the Croatian administration (REDOMAT).

The Adriatic Sea offers a beautiful view, and visiting the tourist spots around the city is a great experience.

Some courses are taught in English, unlike others.

Avoid public transportation in Rijeka, as it is often overcrowded to the point where you can’t even get off!

Rijeka’s airport is more than 25 km from the city, so I recommend setting aside €50 for a taxi ride.

Student life isn’t very developed in Rijeka, but the city center has several bars and restaurants, perfect for a good evening out!

Some courses organize trips that allow you to explore neighboring countries and the large mountainous areas of Croatia.

Croatia is a very touristy country, so scams are common, and casinos can be found on every corner.

In winter, it rains very often, so you’ll need to invest in a good, wind-resistant umbrella and NEVER forget it when going out!
